New Character serves as a condensed summary of the first season of a non-existant television series. In this short film, we delve into the daily life of a young woman in her twenties navigating the routines of an ordinary office within an unnamed North American megalopolis. In American sitcoms and Mumblecore films, writers often strive to construct a semblance of a "universal" experience while adhering to the prevailing ideals of the American dream. These narratives often invite viewers to seek reflections of themselves in the characters, providing a canvas for personal projection. New Character takes this concept to the extreme, crafting a protagonist so broadly targeted that, in the end, no one can truly relate to her.
